We all remember the awkward moments in high school Health class (who could forget?!). But now a new trend is emerging, and it looks like health class is movin? on up?to higher education. Wellness courses are now being offered and even required at some colleges and universities!
NYU?s School of Continuing and Professional Studies has recently added a list of wellness classes to its roster. According to the website, you can now receive a ?Certificate of Wellness? by completing three required courses and two electives. The classes revolve around seven wellness dimensions: physical, emotional, spiritual, mental, social, occupational, and environmental, and are aimed at teaching healthier living. They sound awesome to us!
Broward College in Fort Lauderdale, FL has a wellness requirement for undergrads where you can choose from classes like Healthful Living, Slimnastics and more. Additionally, they offer other wellness classes as electives, like Contemporary Health Issues and Wellness Workouts.
It?s great that colleges and universities are starting to take wellness seriously, and investing in the student body with required learning. A lot of colleges have had ?health? class requirements in the past, but we find this new switch to the wellness terminology and mindset very telling of where things are headed for the future. Did you take a wellness course in college? Or would you consider going back for a certificate now?
