Downtown Director: Farm Pond Fall Festival a Success [VIDEO ...

Saturday, the Framingham Downtown Renaissance organization and its new director Holli Andrews hosted the inaugural Farm Pond Fall Festival.

"I definitely plan to campaign for Farm Pond Fall Festival to be an annual event. The setting is so beautiful. We heard from festival goers that they were so happy with the day - and I think people who live in Framingham are incredibly warm and social. That has been my experience! I want to continue to bring us all together - and that is what creating and promoting a vibrant downtown is all about. A place where we can meet folks and share great times and make memories," said Andrews.

Hundreds attended the family-friendly event in Farm Pond Park, which features entertainment, a farmer's market, games, bubbles, face painting, arts & crafts, food and so much more.

Attendees were asked to where name tags. Besides their names, they were asked to write what they would like to see in downtown Framingham. Fine dining, an indoor winter farmer's market, no empty storefronts, a movie theatre, a teashop, a science center were just some of the things people want for the future of downtown Framingham.

"I loved everyone's ideas for Downtown Framingham and I plan to work on all of them! It's crucial for FDR to know what sorts of businesses, points of interest, and entertainment will bring everyone to Downtown Framingham, because we truly want it to be a gathering place for all of us. I did thoroughly enjoy reading people's name tags and I plan to do that lots in the future! Such innovative ideas - and super diverse, too! Unique, just as I would suspect from Framingham folks," said Andrews.

Many non-profit organizations and downtown businesses had booths at the event. There was lost of local entertainment from dancing, to drumming to historic storytelling to a musical performance by the students at the Performing Arts Center of MetroWest.

The Framingham Girl Scouts offered nature-themed arts and crafts and the students at the Christa McAuliffe Regional Public Charter School rans games and gave glitter tattoos. TD Bank had a pumpkin painting station and the Framingham DPW had a plow truck for kids to explore and beep the horn. And that's just a sampling of the activities during the four-hour festival.

"The greatest thing I took away" from the event "was meeting so many of the people who came, and learning about all of the skills and expertise and gifts they brought to the festival. All of us coming together to begin talking about Downtown Framingham was special in and of itself; but? to see everyone collectively contributing to the day and having fun at Farm Pond Park, let's just say the sun yesterday wasn't the only thing that was shining," concluded Andrews.
